REQUIRED COURSES :
Passport to Girl Scouting (previously called BLT – Basic Leadership Training)
Ø Parts A, B & C all together 3 hours. Part A alone – One hour
Ø Part A – Volunteer Basics. One hour training includes a 25 minute video. (Volunteer Essentials, Safety Activity Checkpoints, Girl Scout Safety Guidelines, Resource Guide)
Ø Part B – Troop Basics (Troop Leadership Team, Troop Committees, Parent Meeting, Service Unit Ways of Work, Girl/Adult Partnership, Troop Management, Troop Activities)
Ø Part C – Financial Basics for Troops (Product Sales, Bank Accounts, Record Keeping
Ø Home Study course is available
Leadership Essentials (taken within 3 months, 6 mths max)
Ø Topics covered: Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE), Using Journeys The Girls Guide to Girl Scouting
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TRAINING:
Ø Program Level Training – Daisy/Brownie, Junior, & Cadette
Ø Enrichment trainings – topics such as Ceremonies, Journey workshops games science, and songs

*******************VOLUNTEER APPOINTMENT PROCESS*************************************************
Ø All adults assuming a leadership role must complete a Volunteer Application and Criminal Background Check Authorization Form (GSSJC F-39). http://www.gssjc.org/forms/F-39.pdfThe form requires your Social Security Number, date, signature and two references. (Applicant should mail their own application due to confidential information).
Ø Take Passport to Girl Scouting training (Parts A, B, & C). Take Leadership Essentials within 3 months (6 months max).
Ø Once the criminal background check is approved. A notification is emailed from the Council Volunteer Records Department, to the applicant notifying her/him (and the Service Unit designee) of the status of the application and criminal background check.
Ø *****When one adult has completed the steps above AND a 2nd adult is in the above process THEN the Troop roster is given and Troop Meetings may begin. If not already changed, then in online GSSJC account request "01" status to manage the Troop Roster online. More than one leader may have 01 status.
Ø Check the Council website www.gssjc.org often for new information and fun course offerings.
Ø Attend Service Unit Meetings

Who needs to be a registered paying $12 member of Girl Scouts:
Ø All girls
Ø Adults working with girls in a leadership position (includes leaders, co-leaders and any adults in the following positions: Product Sales, Treasurer, Troop Camp trained adult)
Ø Any parents who wish to be registered
Ø Note: Adults CAN have an online GSSJC account AND register for events even if they are not a registered paying member.
